Victoza (Liraglutide) 6 mg/ml Injection Pen
 
Victoza is a prescription injectable medication used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults and children 10 years of age and older with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is intended to be used as an adjunct to a healthy diet and regular exercise.
 
In addition to managing blood sugar, Victoza is also approved to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (such as heart attack, stroke, or death) in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease.
 
How it Works: 
Victoza contains the active ingredient Liraglutide, which is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It works in three main ways:
It helps your pancreas release more insulin when your blood sugar is high.
It slows down the process of food leaving your stomach (gastric emptying).
It helps prevent your liver from producing and releasing too much sugar.
This medication is not insulin and is not for use in people with type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.

Directions for Use:
Victoza is a once-daily injection. It can be administered at any time of day, with or without meals.
It is injected subcutaneously (under the skin) in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.
Your healthcare provider will show you how to use the pen correctly and will prescribe your specific dose (e.g., 0.6 mg, 1.2 mg, or 1.8 mg). This pen contains multiple doses.
Needles are sold separately and are required for administration.
 
Important Safety Information:
BOXED WARNING (USA): RISK OF THYROID C-CELL TUMORS: Liraglutide has caused thyroid C-cell tumors in animal studies. It is unknown if Victoza causes thyroid C-cell tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), in humans.
Do NOT use Victoza if you or any of your family members have ever had MTC.
Do NOT use Victoza if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
Storage: Store new, unused pens in the refrigerator (36°F to 46°F / 2°C to 8°C). After first use, the pen can be stored for 30 days at room temperature (59°F to 86°F / 15°C to 30°C) or in the refrigerator.
